Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report - Sebastian Area
Well, I do not have a whole of new information to report. Action on the flats very early and very late in the day has been fairly good. However, large concentrations of fish have not been easy to find and when you do find them they are easily spooked making it difficult to catch a lot of fish in one spot. Consequently, I have been moving from spot to spot picking up few fish here and there.
Most of the trout have been in the 15 to 20 inch range. They are hitting a variety of baits from top-water plugs to jigs. I have been avoiding the very shallow water lately because the number of fish in these areas appears to be low. The grass has a lot of algae growing on it and this seems to have made it less appealing to the fish. Snook have been active early and late. We got a hook into a 15+ lb. fish this morning using a top-water plug, but on the 5th jump it through the plug. Oh well, not much you can do about that, but it sure was nice to see such a great fish up close. The great thing is there will be a next time and maybe the outcome of the next fight will be different. Of course, if we do win the next fight the fish will survive, because I will never have the heart to kill such a wonderful fish. If I did, I would never have the chance to catch it again, nor would anyone else. Most of the snook we have been catching are coming on top-water early and shrimp and shrimp imitations fished along the mangroves and docks. Redfish are scattered as they always are in the Sebastian area. Jig and jerk baits are accounting for the reds. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
