The fishing has been great this past week as it always is, but the catching has been sporadic. The mornings have been very good for trout and some snook, the afternoons have been slow, and the evenings have been good for trout and a few reds. The jacks and ladyfish have been feeding in the same areas in the morning as the trout, so the action has been consistent up until 9 am or so. The early morning trout have been coming on top-water baits, which is always fun, and the 9 am fish on jerk baits. These fish are in shallow water (less than a foot to 3 feet) over grass and sand. Small trout have not been hard to find later in the morning, and these fish have been taking jigs and live shrimp. The snook are taking top-water plugs early and shrimp imitations later along mangrove shorelines and dock areas.
The reds have been scattered in the shallows, along mangroves, and around islands. Take you pick and hope you guess right. The reds just do not seem to be staying in one place very long these days. We have had to work hard for the few we are catching. The redfish action has been best from mid-morning through the early afternoon and very late in the evening. The reds have been coming on jerk baits for the most part with a few taking top-water plugs late in the day. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
