Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Report - Sebastian Area
The fishing this past week was good when the wind was not so strong as to make finding bait and fishing the prime areas impossible. This morning I took Ed and Ed (Father and son) out for some smorgasbord action. We were mainly targeting trout and snook, but ended up boating trout, snook, jacks, and ladyfish. The largest trout was 241/2,” the largest snook was about 21,” and the action was consistent all morning. The trout were located over grass in about 3 ft. of water. These fish hit top-water enhanced jigs from about 7 am through 9:30 am. A few fish were also caught on Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp, which is probably my favorite soft plastic bait.
The snook, jacks, and ladyfish were located along mangrove shorelines in 1 to 2 ft. of water. These fish were targeting mullet, so we floated mullet under a float on a light circle hook. We had a bit of trouble getting solid hookups this morning, but managed to boat a good number of fish (i.e., I lost count).
The amount of bait in the Lagoon is starting to wane a bit, but there is still plenty and the fish are still keying on it. As long at it lasts and the weather cooperates the fishing should be very good on the flats, along the mangroves, and around many of the islands. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
