Central Indian River Lagoon

Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Report-Sebastian Area

Hey, thanks for all those who attended my seminar at Boater’s World last week. What a great crowd. The fishing continues to be dictated by the weather. One day it seems like we don’t even have to try to catch fish to catch a boat full and the next we have to work very hard for 10 good fish. My clients and I have been concentrating on finding large trout and any redfish in the area. When the winds have allowed us to comb shallow water areas at a slow pace we have done well catching trout in the 20-27 inch range and redfish ranging from 3-15 lbs. When the winds are up and a slow drift is impossible the count of big fish decreases rapidly. Small trout have been abundant in the wind protected areas we have fished on the windy days.

The trout and redfish are taking Rip-Tide Brand weedless shrimp in the New Penny color and live shrimp fished on 1/8 oz. jigs worked slowly along the bottom in 1-2 feet of water. The smaller fish have been located in 3-4 feet of water along the edges of flats. It is supposed to get cold again tonight, but the water temp was 70 degrees this afternoon, so it should not get too cold as long as the cold weather does not persist. This bodes well for the next few days of fishing as long as the wind does not get too strong. Until next time Tight-Lines to all.

Sincerely,

Capt. Ron
