Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report - Sebastian Area
The summer pattern of early mornings and late evening being very productive times to catch fish seems to have taken hold the last few days. Especially if you want to catch them using top-water techniques. Water temps are up near 80 degrees and along with the increased water temps has come an increase in top-water action. We caught some really nice fish this past week. We had trout to 8 lbs, reds to 15 lbs, and snook to 10 lbs all on top-water plugs. Most of the best action was very early in the morning from 5 am to about 8 am. However, if the wind was blowing during other times of the day top-water techniques continued to produce. For the most part, after 8 am we have been turning to pin’s minnows, Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp and Jerk Baits, and jigs to keep some action coming our way. The larger trout, reds, and snook have been in 1 to 2 feet of water early in the mornings. Small to medium sized trout have been holding in about 3.5 feet of water later in the day until near dark. Some reds have been cruising these intermediate depths as well. The trout and reds have been feeding in grassy areas, while the snook have been along, but not necessarily in, the mangroves, because much of the shoreline has been out of the water due to very low water levels (be careful running or you will find yourself ripping up grass flats). Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
