Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report-Sebastian Area
Have had some great trips this past week. Trout, reds, and snook have been active. We have been catching fish here and there throughout the day, but the mornings have been the best. Evenings have been slow, but fish feeding activity has been picking up near dark. My fishing partner (Capt. Jeff Kraynik) and myself fished the Homebuilders Double Slam this past Saturday and had a great day catching fish. We boated 6 slams, but none of the snook were big enough. That is not to say we did not have our chances at some larger snook, we just could not get one in the boat. We did weight a 5.5 lb trout and a 5.5 lb. redfish that were on the leader board for awhile, but in the end our fish ended up in the 5th and 6th spots. Oh well, you can’t win them all and we had a great time fishing for a great cause.
The trout have been taking top-water at time, but the top-water bite has not been heavy lately. I have been doing better on Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp and shallow running plugs. The larger trout are very shallow early and laying off the edges of flats during the late mornings and afternoons.
Reds we have been finding have been shallow all day long. We have been sticking with Rip-Tide Weedless Shrimp and Jerk Baits for these fish. A lot of the reds have been over muddy bottom with very little grass.
The snook have been on shallow flats early and late, but we have been fishing deeper docks at other times of the day. Shallow running plugs have been the best producers.
The water conditions are very good on the Lagoon right now due to the lack of rain and thus runoff. Get out there and take advantage of these conditions because the rains are bound to come soon. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
