Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Report-Sebastian Area
Wow, it’s been hot, humid, and calm in the mornings over the past week. We have not had much rain so far this summer so runoff has been minimal and water quality is probably as good as you could expect it to be this time of year. I have been restricting my trips to the morning because all the action seems to be condensed into the first 3-4 hours from 5:30 am to about 9:30 am. Evenings have been slow because the water is so warm that it does not cool off until well after dark. In the mornings, we have been having fun with trout, snook, a few reds, and some small tarpon. Not much has changed as far as where and how we are catching these fish. Very early we are targeting shallow grass with a good interspersion of sand pockets. Later we are moving to the deeper edges. Everything is taking top-water plugs very early. Later we are switching to Rip-Tide Brand jerk baits and shallow diving plugs to keep the action going. One of the hottest has been the Corky with a rattle tube inserted to make it a bit easier to locate by the fish. I do not see this pattern changing much unless we get a bunch of rain from a tropical storm or God forbid a hurricane. Of course once the water temps start to drop a bit in late September and the bait run start things will change a bunch. But I will keep that story until it is time. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
