Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report-Sebastian Area
The weather this past week was simply perfect for fishing. We had light winds throughout the day and temperatures in the 70s. The water temp is 70 degrees and that is optimal for trout and reds. To have a water temp of 70 is more than an angler could hope for in January. Overall, a person just can’t ask for anything more, except of course for the fish to be hitting, and they have been. We have been catching a bunch of trout and a few reds on just about every trip. Only a few of the fish have been big, but the action has been great. Jacks and ladyfish also have been active. The water is warm enough for the trout and reds to take top-water plugs early and late in the day, almost a summer like pattern. After the sun gets up we have been switching to shallow diving plugs and Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp. Any larger fish we have been taking have come early and late in the day in very shallow water of about 1 foot to 1 ½ feet. I have been targeting shallow grass with bait during these times and then looking for schools of bait over a bit deeper water during the late mornings, afternoons, and early evenings. We have been doing best in areas with cleaner water and fairly good-looking grass. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
