Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report-Sebastian Area
The weather has finally started to warm up a bit and the water temp is up to 71 degrees which generally make for some good fishing. Grass is still very scarce so we have been targeting the few areas that still have grass, muddy bottom areas, and docks.
Trout have been holding along the edges of areas with grass especially the windward side and around many of the docks. So have the jacks and ladyfish. We have had to wade through these fish to get to the trout. That is we have to catch a bunch of jacks and ladyfish before a trout will finally be fast enough to get the plug. However, patience has been paying off with some nice fish in the 5-7 lb. Range. Hopefully this is just the beginning of really good spring and summer big trout bite. Trout have been coming on small shallow diving plugs worked fairly slowly over the aforementioned areas.
Redfish have been holding in areas with muddy bottom during the afternoons. No big fish here but some fish just under and over the slot size - a lot of fun when you can find them. These fish have been taking Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp worked slowly along the bottom. The best color has been New Penny. A few reds has also been around the docks. Some have taken small diving plugs such as the Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow.
The recent bonus has been the waking up of the snook bite. As the water has warmed the snook seem to have become more active. All the snook we have taken recently have been around docks. These fish have been hitting the small diving plugs, but you have to work them very slowly. Large live shrimp also have elicited some strikes.
Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
