Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Report-Sebastian Area
The weather continues to be up and down, but when we have had conditions that were good enough to fish we have been doing well on trout, with a few reds and snook throw’in in. Jacks and ladyfish have been all over the areas we have been fishing for these other species.
The trout have been around the edges of very shallow flats especially the windward side of the flats. We have been using primarily shallow diving plugs and Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shimp. At times we have been doing well on top-water spooks, but it has depended greatly on the water temperature at the time-the warmer the better. We have been catching some really nice fish in the 5-6 lb. range. As we move further into the month of March and especially into April and May the big trout bite should really pick up. Better yet, we can target these fish with top-water plugs. It does not get any better than that.
The reds have been in the same areas as the trout, but also in very shallow water over muddy bottom. These fish have been taking Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp for the most part. The reds have been moving around a lot, so if you are looking to catch reds, running and gunning has been the best tactic lately.
The snook we have been catching have been around the many damaged docks in the Sebastian area. The snook have been taking the shallow diving plugs and Corkies. The best technique has been to pitch the lure into an area and then let it slowly sink. After it has suck a few feet, a few twitches have elicited the strikes. Some of the snook have been in the 8-10 lb. range. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
