Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report-Sebastian Area
The water temps are still cool for this time of year. This morning the surface temp in the Lagoon was 59 degrees. However, by the end of the day temps had warmed to 68. Despite the cool water temps we caught some nice trout to 5 lbs, snook to 5 lbs., and reds to 12 lbs. Add in a few jacks and we had a good day.
The forecast is more for low temps in the 50s then next two days so the gains in water temp made during the day will be lost overnight. Hopefully we will see warmer temps soon. When we do the big trout and snook should become active enough to start taking top-water plugs. Right now the trout are taking Yo-Zuri 3D Finglerings worked very slowly along the edges of flats and channels. Areas holding mullet and glass minnows have been the most productive. We have been catching the trout throughout the day.
The best redfish bite has been from about 1 PM on through the late afternoon. The fish we have been targeting are moving into areas with about 2 ft. of water over muddy bottom. We are catching these fish using the Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp and Flats Chubs. The best color has been New Penny. Work these lures very slowly and keep them near the bottom to get the most strikes.
The snook we have been catching have been around docks and other structure. The snook, like the trout, have been hitting the 3D fingerling. Again, do not work the lure too fast. Keep the lure near the structure for as long as possible to elicit the most strikes from these lethargic fish. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
