Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Report-Sebastian Area
The water has warmed up into the lower 70s and the top-water action is heating up as well. It has been a long cold winter, but the time has finally arrive for us anglers whose passion is getting the large trout, snook, and reds to bust a top-water plug. Just this morning we had at least 5 large fish blow up on our spooks. We only hooked one, but even the strikes are fun when they come from trophy-sized fish.
It also appears that the warmer water and longer days have brought the bait back north. The lagoon around Sebastian is full of mullet and greenies and the predators are chasing them all over and around the flats. Trout and reds have been taking spooks and poppers worked over the edges of flats and above the shallow-water flats themselves. Look for pelicans feeding and you will find the concentrations of baitfish. Baitfishes also are concentrating along certain mangrove shorelines. These areas have been productive for trout, reds, and a few snook. Rip-Tide Brand Flats Chubs and Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerlings have been most productive when working the shores. We have been catching fish throughout the day, but 6 am until about noon has been the most productive time period. Along with the trout, reds, and snook, jacks, ladyfish, and bluefish have been keeping us busy on most trips. Some of the jacks have been to 10 lbs and we caught a ladyfish a few days ago that was pushing 5 lbs. The large female trout have definitely been getting more active on and around the flats over the past few days. Each day we have had fish in the 6 lb range or better bust our lures. As long as the water temps stay in the 70s to low 80s we should have some great action. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
