Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, redfish, and snook fishing report-sebastian area
Periodic wind and storms have made it difficult if not impossible to fish at times. However, water temps are back in the mid-70s and the trout action has started to pick up on the flats. With trout more active in shallow water top-water baits have been working well. Yes! It is the beginning of top-water time. From now until fall when the water temps drop below 70 degrees top-water baits will be my choice of presentations, especially in the early mornings, late evenings, and at night. My favorite top-water lures are the Excalibur super spook and the Storm Chug Bug. During low light periods I light periods I like to use plugs with a gold and black combination pattern and during bright periods a silver and black or white pattern. Once summer is in full swing I will turn to soft plastics and diving plugs to catch fish during the hot times of the day.
Redfish have been cruising the shorelines and hanging around some of the shallow docks (i.e., the docks with shallow water around them). These fish have been taking the Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerlings and the Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp and Flats Chubs. We have been doing best on white and gold n’ glow color patterns.
The snook action has been slow because the water temps are still on the cool side for these fish. However, they can be caught. You just have to put your bait right in from of the fish and move it slow. These fish are not out chasing bait yet. We have been concentrating our efforts to catch snook around deeper docks and mangroves. We have had the best luck twitching the Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerlings.
Lets hope the weather settles down soon so the fish can get into a pattern of where they want to be and what they want to eat, so we can get into a solid pattern of catching them. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
