Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon Fishing Report for trout, snook, and redfish-Sebastian Area
The fishing this past week has been a bit slow. The best bites for trout, snook, and redfish have been early mornings and then the action has only lasted for about an hour. Late evening trips have been producing some action but only right before dark. The hot weather has really warmed the water and with surface temps in the upper 80s to low 90s it is no wonder the fish are a bit sluggish and only feeding for short periods. Because of this we have been toning down our presentations. Moving our lures slower and with a bit less action to get these sluggish fish to hit. This is not to say that some of the fish are not very active at times, however, for the most part a slower, less active retrieve has been catching the most fish. We have been targeting the edges of points, flats, and islands early and late with top-water plugs, small swimming plugs, and soft plastics. The Rapala Skitter-Walk, Excalibur Super Spook Jr., and Storm Chug bugs have been the best producers. The new holographic Skitter-Walks have been particularly productive. Dark colors early and late and brighter colors when the sun is up a bit has been the ticket. The Rapala X-Rap, Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerling, and the Rip-Tide Soft Plastic Jerk Bait all have been productive when a sub-surface presentation has been needed.
The full moon is coming up and the after dark bit should be good as long as the bright moon shines. Stick to fishing areas that tend to concentrate fish, like docks, points, and islands and you should do well on top-water plugs after dark. If you are a live bait type angler, get yourself some larger mullet and float them around these same types of habitats and you are bound to pick up some big trout, snook, and maybe even a shark. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
