Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, redfish, and snook fishing report-Sebastian Area
The weather has warmed up, albeit just temporarily, and water temps last evening peaked just over 70 degrees. As a result, trout and reds were pretty active along shallow water breaks. They actually were active enough to take a pop or two at top-water plugs. However, soft plastics remained the most productive. Trout and a few redfish were actively chasing baitfish in about 1-2 feet of water from about 2 pm on through sunset. The best areas had grass, bait, and were located close to deeper water. As the sun set these fish moved off the shallows and into the adjacent deeper water. Rip-Tide Brand Flats Chubs and DOA CAL Split-Tailed Shads were the most productive. We rigged them weedless and worked them at a medium pace. Some of the trout hit hard while others were much less aggressive. The redfish also did not hesitate to take our offerings. This is a nice change of pace from the past week or so when cold temps slowed everything down to a crawl. We saw numerous showers of bait on the flats, so for a brief moment we tied on a couple top-water plugs and gave it a go. We did get a couple hits by smaller trout, but realized quickly that the larger fish preferred the soft plastics, so we switched back. Top-water time is not far off however! There are a couple of more days of warm weather in the forecast, so get out there and take advantage of it if you can. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
