Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, redfish, and snook fishing report-Sebastian Area
Water temps are creeping up to near the 70-degree mark by dusk, so we have been fishing the late afternoons and early evenings. Trout have been fairly active on the shallow flats and along shallow mangrove shorelines, as have redfish. Not much snook action yet. We have been encountering some really nice trout to 6 pounds with almost all of the fish well over the minimum 15 inch mark. Soft plastics remain the most productive. Rip-Tide Brand Flats Chubs and Cals have been the staples We have been rigging them on 1/8 oz jigs or weedless with an insert weight depending on water depth and the amount of grass and other vegetation present. A slow to medium speed presentation has worked well. We have been trying top-water plugs from time to time, but they have not produced. As water temps break the 70-degree mark and stay there for a bit, the top-water bite should pick up. Basically, from this point on into spring and early summer the fishing should just keep getting better. Although, I would not call it poor now, as long as the wind stays down and allows you to slowly work an area you can catch fish. If the wind is up and you can’t methodically cover an area the catching gets a bit harder. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron Bielefeld
