Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, redfish, and snook fishing report-Sebastian Area
After a few cool nights things have warmed up again. Water temps this evening were in the mid-seventies and fish were eating pretty well. Evenings have been much more productive than mornings probably because of the warmer water. Large trout, reds, and snook have been marauding the shallow mangrove shorelines and flats in 1-2 feet of water. These fish have been finicky at times, but with enough persistence we have been able to get some of them to eat. Our best luck has still come on soft plastic rigged weedless or on a 1/16 oz. jig worked at a slow to medium pace. Rip-Tide Flats Chubs in the new penny color has been a winner. If you are into plugs more than plastics, another good producer has been the Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerling in the white color pattern. Give it a couple jerks and then let it suspend then move it again. Most strikes will come during the stop. These plugs can be worked in very shallow water. Just keep your rod tip high and rip it hard enough to keep the grass from getting stuck on the hooks. Some nice sized (5-10 lbs.) jacks have been chasing bait and our lures in a bit deeper water. These fish have been patrolling the deeper edges of the shorelines and flats and are the only thing that has been willing to take top water plugs with any regularity. This will change as water temps rise through the spring. After the water temps have remained in the mid to upper 70s for a couple of weeks trout and snook should start smacking the top stuff with more regularity. We have been finding keeper-sized trout in the same areas as the jacks and these fish have been hitting the soft plastics. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
