Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, redfish, and snook fishing report-Sebastian Area
The nights have been cool and the days warm. This mix of temperatures has kept the water temps in what I call the good range (i.e., between 70 and 80 degrees). Thus, the fish have been catchable throughout most of the day, and we have been catching some nice fish. Reds, snook, and trout have been feeding in the very shallow waters early and late and have even been skinny dipping mid-day. Flats, mangrove points, and island points with current and bait have been concentration points for some large fish. As usual being quiet is key, as is presenting the correct lure in the correct way. Lately, the top-water action has been off. I can’t say why (I do have some ideas), but at least for me, the fish just do not want to hit on top with much gusto. As a result, I have been turning to the Yo-Zuri hard baits that swim just under the surface and make a bunch of vibration and have good rattles. The SS Minnow is what did the trick this morning. This lure swims just under the surface, so you can work it in very shallow grass without any trouble. The other stand-by lure has been the Rip-Tide Brand Flats Chub on a 1/16 oz. jighead. We have been working these lures with quite a bit of authority to compete with all the natural bait, but always with a pause, never just a straight retrieve. Stop it for a second and wait for the hit! As water temperatures warm up feeding activity will become more compressed. That means venturing out at O Dark Thirty to catch the best of the action. Nights also can be good, especially during the full moon. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
