Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, snook, and redfish fishing report-Sebastian Area
The rains have started and the water levels are up a bit. The rains and cloudy weather also have cooled the water temps. All this change has put a little charge in the fishing action. Early mornings and late evenings are still the best times if you want large trout and snook. The redfish, the few we have been finding, have been coming mid-morning or at any time during the evenings on toward dark. The storms have limited evening fishing lately, but up until a few days ago, our best catching was coming from 6 pm on toward dark. We are fishing the same type of areas we have been for a while, shallow flats and their edges, islands, and submerged points. The water remains very clear, so fishing the dim light periods has been important. Once the sun has come up and if the water has been calm the catching has shut down very quickly. If there has been a chop on the water it has lasted a bit longer into the morning and started a bit earlier in the evening. Yo-Zuri Banana Boats and 3D Fingerlings continue to produce, as due Rip-Tide Brand Flats Chubs rigged weedless or on a light jig. The lighter colors, such as white, hey you can’t get any lighter than that, have been good producers. Top-water action has been best in the late evenings as compared to the very early mornings and speed has been an issue. We have been getting more strikes using a slow to medium pace on all our lures. Long casts and an overall stealthy approach have been important due to the clear water. This rain may murk things up a bit and if it does the fish may become a bit less weary. We are deep into the summer pattern, so I would fish very early from 5am on to about 10am and/or 5pm on to dark. If the moon is full, or close to it, the action can last well into the night. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
