Central Indian River Lagoon

Capt. Ron Bielefeld
September 26, 2006
Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, snook, and redfish fishing report-sebastian area

The fishing the past few weeks has been hit or miss. Recent rains have muddied the waters around Sebastian and water levels remain normal to a bit on the high side. Early morning water temps are running in the low 80s. More bait is showing up and there seems to be bait everywhere at the moment. These conditions have made for some good early morning top-water action for snook, trout, and a few reds on the very shallow flats. During the dark moon periods we have been getting out at around 5 am and having consistent action through 9 am with a few fish cooperating on until noon if the chop stays up. On the full moon nights we have been fishing from midnight until about 7 am and catching some really nice snook, trout, and big ladyfish on top-water. Once the sun is up we have been switching to Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerlings and Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp and their new Mud Minnows. We have been working the edges (3-5 feet of water) of grass flats and islands during the bright times of the day. As the first few cool fronts make their way through the area the amount of bait should continue to stay high as the baitfish migrate their way down our coast. This glut of forage will key longer feeding periods by most species providing some excellent fishing opportunities. The flounder should be starting to stage in the Sebastian Inlet soon. Use jigs while drifting during the current changes to catch your share. Until next time. Tight-Lines to all.

Sincerely,

Capt. Ron
