Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, redfish, and snook fishing report-Sebastian Area
The first cool fronts have come through the area and the bait run is in full swing. When the winds have been low enough to fish the catching has been good. Trout have been abundant around the edges of flats and islands. Most of these fish are 1-3 lbs with an occasional 5-pounder thrown in. Redfish have been cruising the shallow flats chasing mullet, but they have been hard to catch at times because of all the natural bait that has been present. Snook , are still active, but not as hot as they were before the water temps cooled down. The snook have been active around docks and on the shallow flats late in the day . Large redfish, and some snook have been crowding the Inlet feasting on mullet. Flounder also are in the Inlet staging for their annual run offshore to spawn.
The trout, reds, and snook on and around the flats have been hitting a variety of lures including Yo-Zuri 3D fingerlings, Yo-Zuri Banana boats, Rip-Tide Brand Flats Chubs, and Rip-Tide Weedless Shrimp. These fish have been hitting off and on all day long. That is the great thing about the bait run and a bit cooler water temps. Some of our best action on larger fish has been at noon and 1 pm.
The redfish and other predators cruising the Inlet have been taking mullet. So get out your cast net and load up the bait bucket if you want to tie into some of these fish. The flounder have been coming on ¼ and 3/8 oz. Spro jigs in the glow and white color pattern. Pound these jigs off the bottom during slow and slack current periods to catch these tasty flat fish. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Capt. Ron
