Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, redfish, and snook fishing report-Sebastian Area
Windy, calm, cool, warm-the weather just keeps changing its mind. Well, that is pretty typical for this time of year in east-central Florida. As a result, the fishing has followed a similar pattern of warm and cold, good catching during warm and calmer conditions and poor catching during the opposite. Trout and reds have been hanging out in the shallow backwater areas and when the conditions have been right they have been eating the soft plastics we have been offering them. The most productive have been the Rip-Tide Brand Weedless Shrimp and Mud Minnows in the new penny color pattern. We have been spotting these fish or their movements and then pitching these lures to within 6-8 feet. Presentation has been very subtle hops and twitches. It is great to see these fish move over to and eat the lures. Hey, it is almost as fun as top-water action. On some days it has been very difficult to find fish in the shallows that are in the mood to eat. When this has happened we have moved to deeper edges of flats and around islands in search of small to medium sized trout. Most days these fish have been cooperative. These smaller fish have been taking the same lures as the larger fish and we have been using the same presentation. As water temps continue to cool down smaller lures and slower presentation will be the key to getting fish to hit, so be patient. Take the time to look for fish in the shallows on calm, sunny later afternoons and early evenings. You may not fill the boat with fish, but chances are you will get a shot at several nice sized reds and trout. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
