Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, redfish, and snook fishing report-Sebastian area
The weather has been warm with some windy days and some calm over the last couple of weeks. I was gone up in Indiana for a week over Christmas, so did not do any fishing then. Since I have been back the best action has been trout and reds on live shrimp both free-lined and under a float worked along drop-offs and around structure like docks. We have also been getting some action on Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerlings, Rip-Tide Weedless Shrimp, and small top water plugs like the Yo-Zuri ZZ pop. Yes, you read it correctly, top water in January. That’s what can happen when the weather stays so warm. Most days the action has been moderate, but lately a few good days with over 20 fish in 4-6 hours have crept in. Snapper and a few flounder have also graced us with their presence. I personally like this warm weather and hope it continues. Keep your presentations slow to moderate and be patient and you will be rewarded with some nice fish. The backwater areas have been slow because the weather has been so warm. If it gets cold then these very shallow areas will get more productive during late afternoon trips. Live shrimp and small soft plastics are the best lures under these conditions. Be very quite when fishing these areas and, again, you will get your share of some nice fish. Until next time. Tight-lines to all.
Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
