Central Indian River Lagoon

Capt. Ron Bielefeld

Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. Ron Bielefeld's Indian River Lagoon trout, redfish, and snook fishing report-Sebastian Area

Water levels have come way up and at the same time become very murky around the Sebastian Area. Fishing has been very slow for me. We have been catching a few fish, but we have had to work hard for the few trout, redfish, and snook we have been catching. It has been hard to find clean water and that may be part of the problem. We have been trying many different techniques to elicit strikes including the usual Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerlings and soft plastics and jigs. We also have been trying many different colors. During all the trials the white 3D Fingerling has been the most productive. Water temps are still rather low in the lower to mid-70s early in the day. Thus, top-water has not been very effective, at least not for me. I am hoping the water will clear up quickly and warm up just a bit more, so the top-water action will pick up. You can’t beat early morning top-water action for its fun value.

The fish we have been catching have come from shallow points and edges of flats with grass. The primary forage of these fish seems to be small pig and pin fish. These bait fish are abundant on the shallows. Noticeably absent are glass minnow and small mullet. There are a lot of large mullet, but very few smaller fish. Hopefully the variety of bait will increase soon.

Not much more I can say in this report. Hopefully you are having better luck than I have been having lately. As always, Tight-Lines to all.

Sincerely,

Capt. Ron
