Indian River Lagoon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Sight Fishing at It's Best!!
With water temps dropping with each passing cold front the waters of the Indian River Lagoon System (IRLS) become more and more clear. All of the algaes and mini organisms that diminish the water clarity during the summer are dying off, leaving gin clear water for us to prowl, for Redfish. Large Speckled Trout also roam the shallows during this time of the year. It is not uncommon to land Trout up to 7lbs. while casting to promising sand holes.
On the days when the winds lay down, this creates some of the best Sight Fishing there is. The combination of poling quietly along these pristine grass flats, and an accurate cast often results in a screaming drag!
The Redfish are currently laying in the sand holes in wait for an easy meal to come by. A good pair of polarized glasses will enable you to pick out these fish before they see you.
There is nothing more rewarding that to be able to stalk your prey, make a good presentation, and watch as a Redfish engulfs your offering. It is the ultimate in angling satisfaction!!
Recently the fish have really been reacting to smaller soft plastics such as the Rip Tide mullet or Bass Assassin (3in) in a New Penny color (or something with some pink in it) rigged weedless on Daiichi Butt Dragger.
