Backcountry/flats fishing

Capt. Ted & Donnie Benbow
August 5, 2013
Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

This is the fishing report of the father and son team of SkinsandFinsCharters. Well lets get to it! Down in the Florida Keys and the everglades park during July and through August, we are experiencing extreme tides. This allows us to get into some new areas to find the fish. The snapper spawn is in it's prime. Producing fish from 10 to 20 inches. In the everglades we are finding trout in the channels and run offs. Using popping corks we drift the edges looking for these fun fighting fish. Along the trees and deep holes, we are finding redfish, snook, black drum, and big sharks! Using a D.O.A. hook tipped with shrimp we drop down during the slack and wait too hook up with these monster fish! While flats fishing in the cleaner water of the Keys, the bonefish and a few of the bigger tarpon are still lurking around. The preferred bait is a quarter size blue crab, on a weightless hook. The flats in the everglades are producing big redfish and a good bight of snook. Early in the mornings before it gets too hot we are also seeing some baby tarpon tailing along the channels and trees. Want to give it a try? Check out our website @ SkinsandFinsCharters.com till then this is Capt Donnie and Ted Benbow asking you too keep it in the shallow grass.

Islamorada Fishing Forecast:

This the fishing forecast of the father and son team of SkinsandFinsCharters.com. In September and October we are still on the great snapper and trout bite! These fish really put up a great fight for their size. Lots of rod bending action! Also in the backcountry, along the trees and deep holes, the reds, snook, black drum and the big shark are biting! Yes the big sharks; the bulls, black tips, nurse, and big spinners all put up a great fight! Using heavy rods and reels, we put a chunk of the preferred bait on the bottom waiting for the giants to hit! Up on the flats using light tackle, we sight fish to big redfish and snook along the tree lines. In the cleaner waters the early morning and late afternoon bonefish and permit bight will be good as well. Even though we don't get many in one trip they are both amazing fish to fight on the flats. Well that's what we are looking forward to down in the keys. Want to give it a try we will be happy to set it up for you. Till then this is captain Donnie and Ted Benbow asking you to keep it in the shallow grass.
