Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fished a half day with Chris and his father Ed on Christmas morning. The weather for the few days after looked a little unsettling, so the guys were up for going since they were on vacation anyways. We left out around 7 a.m. with some live shrimp, a few pinfish, and a couple blocks of chum. Fishing the fist patch reef out in about 40 feet, we caught a couple small red groupers. Then the grunts moved in and after messing with those for 30 minutes, we decided to move. I went to a little known spot inside 20 feet, we anchored and started chumming. Within a few minutes, lots of mangrove snappers were up on top, a few nice ones up to 13 inches. We had fun with those, and put a few pinfish on the bottom. We caught 6 red groupers, up to 20 inches was one (a keeper) though we let him go as nobody wanted any fish. We also caught a couple nice porgies, and one yellowtail snapper. Shrimp on jigs did the trick for the snappers, and the bottom baits hooked up with pinfish or large shrimp got the grouper bits. Until next time...

Well the rain and cold weather is coming here today in the florida keys, and I think monday is gonna be tough, though hopefully by tuesday afternoon things will get better!
