Crocker Reef Explodes with Mangrove Snapper, Islamorada.

Capt. Kristian Demblans
August 26, 2014
Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

Islamorada,Florida Keys is known for great fishing. This time of year is no exception. On the reefs nearby the snapper bite is great. Both Yellowtail and Mangrove Snapper fishing is hot. Done correctly, its a guarantee. When targeting Yellowtail Snapper, mix a bucket full of oats and chum and begin to throw scatter over board. The yellowtail like peeled shrimp, fillets of ballyhoo, or tuna chunks. The fresher the better. The Mangrove prefer ballyhoo chunks. Flat line the bait for yellowtail strikes. Use 8 to 12lb test leaders. Mangroves are deeper in the water column so send it down with lead. Lots of snapper on the reefs here especially at night.

Target Species:

Snapper
