Florida Keys Backcountry warm weather = lots of fish!

Capt. Richard Stanczyk

Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

We fished a 3/4 day yesterday with Frank and Martin down from philly. We ran in the back, through tons of fog which was very interesting, and caught the last of the falling tide in the morning. The flats were BARE, very little water, but we found a few ditches that were loaded with redfish! Caught probably 40 in about 25 minutes. Caught a few trout and ladyfish and lots of jacks too. Plenty of mullet around, saw a handful of tarpon rolling early but when we went back after the tide switched, they had disappeared... So after that we ran and caught a bunch of spansh mackerel and some nice snappers on the edge of the gulf! Very exciting on light tackle! Had one shark bite (black tip) while we mackerel fished, but another shark came across the stern and got the mono in his mouth, and you know what happened after that! Anyways it was a very exciting day - lots of different fish, and a beautiful day in the florida keys!
