Islamorada Backcountry and Flats

Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

Predictably hot, this August has to be one of the windier ones I can remember. I guess it's good, it helps keep you cool and keeps the bugs down but can a fishing guide get a break once in awhile. The summer is usually the only time I'm not bitching about the wind but not this year. Anyways, the fishing has been solid. Bonefishing has been alright in the mornings but nothing spectacular with the occasional permit around to keep things interesting. Thankfully the redfishing has been excellent and continues to get better. Lots of tailers throughout the day. Snook seem to be showing up a little better in the inner portions of the bay but nothing like it used to be prior to the die off. Personally, they should have kept snook season closed for another year. Looking forward to the next few months. With summer vacation over, random boat traffic will be at it's lowest. Always nice to get on the water and have it all to yourself.
