Islamorada and Florida Keys Kingfish are biting

Capt. Marc Toledo
February 19, 2012
Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

Islamorada sail fishing was a little slow today. The Kingfish bite was pretty good.On the Reel Sharp today we did catch 3 Kings today and one fish was about 15 lbs. There have been some Amberjacks caught on the Islamorada Hump. There was also a few boats that caught a few Mahi today on the edge while Sailfishing. The Islamorada patch reefs have had good action with Yellowtails, Cero Mackerals and Mutton Snappers. When the patch reefs get clear try fishing only one rod at a time back in your chum slick so the Yellowtails don't get spooked. There has also been some big Nurse Sharks on these patch reefs. There have been a few boats that been Swordfishing the last few days and 2 fish under 100 lbs were caught.Islamorada Swordfishing is some of the finest in the world and it is awesome to catch one in the daylight.Islamorada Swordfish can be found 20 to 30 miles offshore on the bottom in depths of water starting about 1800 feet. The Gulf has had a good bite of Spanish Mackeral out west. The Mangrove Snappers have been biting well in the Gulf also. A small jig with a piece of shrimp is a great bait for these fish.
