Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had an absolute amazing weekend of vertical jigging aboard the charterboat Capt. Easy out of Islamorada this past weekend with 2 outstanding groups of hardcore vertical jiggers. April is an awesome time to come down to the keys to wrestle with big amberjacks and a mix of other species and I look forward to these jigging trips more every year.
On Saturday 4-5 we took out Greg, George, Eric, Jomal, and Lynn and released 32 amberjacks all between 30 and 75# as well as a dozen almaco jacks and banded rudderfish. These guys are a group of vertical jiggers from Miami and loosely refer to themselves as the "Miami wrecking crew". The action offshore of Islamorada is fast and furious right now both on the offshore seamounts as well as several deep wrecks. I have to hand it to these guys, they're absolute jigging animals and they never seemed to slow down even after 30 or so jacks. I have to especially hand it to Jomal who single handedly caught at least 11 big aj's. All of the fish where caught on jigs and all where released.
On Sunday 4-6 a different group of vertical jiggers joined us that where referred by the first group. Jeff, Brian, Tuan, and Alex started right where the first group left off and successfully released 18 more big aj's as well as almaco's, rudderfish, and a few gag grouper as well. Another great job by another great group of guys. We've got a few more jig only trips scheduled this month and I'm looking forward to the next one of these trips.
