Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a great day yesterday aboard the Capt. Easy out of Holiday Isle Marina in Islamorada. We wound up catching 2 sailfish, a nice black grouper, a mutton snapper, a few kingfish, and best of all a triple header of 30 to 40# wahoo on 16# spinning tackle. The wahoo flurry was quite the sight. We hooked the first one on a live cigar minnow on the down rod, It bit while we where winding it up to check the bait. It immediately peeled off about 50 yards of line and then turned and came right at us. Right about that time a second 40# wahoo skyrocketed on the cigar minnow on the flat line right behind the boat and wound up 8 feet in the air just 15 feet behind the boat. After we hooked that one I came down from the tower to help the mate and quickly tied another wire and put back one more bait. That bait got eaten immediately and we proceeded to land all 3 fish in the next 1/2 hour. There's nothing like catching wahoo on light spinning tackle. They do things on the light stuff that they just don't do on heavy high speed trolling tackle.
