Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report
Business has been picking up here in Islamorada, Florida Keys. Capt. Rick Stanczyk has been busy fishing the backcountry. The snook fishing has been pretty good, not a whole lot of large fish, but enough to keep anglers entertained. The redfishing has been good at the end of the falling tide and start of the in too, though the heavily trafficked areas have been hit or miss. We got into a decent snook bite today, hooked a dozen or so and caught 8. They got chummed out of the mangroves on pilchards, though were eating the shrimp better. Plenty of jacks, trout, ladyfish, and snapper too earlier in the day and 1 redfish. In the afternoon the guys wanted to try and catch a goliath, the wind started blowing out of the west though... we hit a couple markers. First one was nothing but big jacks. We saved a few of those and hit one other one. Big goliath on here, though all we had was a BG 90 equivalent on a heavy duty deep jigging rod. Hooked him half a dozen times, but kept getting us caught in structure, pulling off, and breaking through 100 lb test. Was a fun day overall though!
