Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well Santa has shown up early this year in Islamorada and he has kept this unusual late migration of mahi coming. In over 20 years of fishing Islamorada, I have never seen this many mahi this late in the season. The nice thing is that we are not even trying to catch them, but they keep showing up on our kite baits while sailfishing on the edge of the reef.

There has been a lot of weed lines and current edges in 100 to 150 feet of water and there has been a lot of nice size schoolies (5 lb. fish). In addition, the colder water has moved some nice sized groupers onto the patch reefs in 20 ft. of water. The yellowtails have been biting good on the patches along with cero mackerels. There have been some nice kingfish action with some fish up to 25lbs on the wrecks.
