Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

Last week we had some excellent fishing offshore. I had some nice action at the offshore humps with Blackfin tuna. A lot of the fish have been in the 15 to 20 pound range. We been catching them on feathers and redgills fished way back behind the boat. Live baits have taken the larger fish. Mixed in with the tuna are skipjacks, bonitos, dorados and wahoo. Most of the dorado action has been in the 150 to 450 foot range. The fish have been under birds weeds and debris. Kingfish are still around with and occasional sail.
The reef has been real productive when conditions are right. We been taking some nice yellowtails, but you have to work for them. The yellowtail bite should get better as the spawn comes on. The bottom has been good and bad. Somedays, black groupers dominate other days reds and gags. One day last week we caught some 5# mangrove snappers in 70 foot of water but only one day. The last grouper we came home with was a 25 inch red.
In the back, trout and ladyfish dominate with an occasional red or snook. Blacktip sharks and lemons are cruising the edges and deep channels on nine mile bank. We seen a few tarpon there as well. The tarpon have been eating good at the bridges. We had good luck with pinfish, crabs and mullet.
Have some fun; book a trip with a full time pro--call 1-800-320-2753.
