Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

Over the last couple of weeks, the fishing has been so so. I went offshore for Dolphin. The fish have been spotty one day you find them the next you don't. I have been lucky, went the dolphin have been scarce, the Blackfin tuna have been biting good. The two most consistent types of fishing have been snapper and tarpon fishing. Of late the hot weather has prohibited anchoring; but when we can the snappers have cooperated. Over the last two weeks, the tarpon fishing has been very good. I been averaging over two fish to the boat and over five hookups a trip. Yesterday morning I fished Jim Armentrout's family; we were rained out Tuesday evening and had a two hour make-up trip. We hooked a large fish, during the hour and a half fight; his son Carl had to jump in the water twice with the rod as the fish swam through the power line and bridge supports. When I finally leadered the fish, it still had enough power to break the 100 pound leader. Carl on the other hand collapsed on the deck with hand and arm cramps.
