Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report
This past week I have made several tarpon trips. And the fish are really biting good. My customers have been getting between 5 and 10 hookups a trip. Last Wednesday, Rex Peterson from Ohio landed 4 fish plus a 7 foot Lemon shark and Sunday Jerry Hebert from Texas landed two plus a 6 foot Blacktip shark. Jerry lost two big tarpon that broke us off on the bridge supports. The most of the fish have been in the 40 pound range with a larger one thrown in to warrant the 20 pound tackle. Sunday morning I had Frank Olshenski and his two children in the backcountry they had a bast catching and releasing mangrove snappers up to 2 pounds and small groupers, sharks.
On the Oceanside, the reef still remains a good bet, and the kings have been active in the Northhole by Alligator light. Over the weekend some Dolphin have been caught in the first shipping lane and some sails off of Davis reef. There aren't many people in town to book the offshore boats. In fact, a lot of boat are in the boatyard being serviced. My boat is slated to go in the next couple of weeks as some as my new depth recorder arrives.
Izzy
