Upper Florida Keys & Islamorada

Capt. Izzy Donatiello

Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing both in the backcountry and ocean have been good. The has been a lot of Spanish Mackerel in the Gulf. The only down side is that you have to run a long ways 10 miles from Spriger bank. Once you find a school it been nonstop action. We also have been finding real nice trout, ladyfish, jacks, etc., etc. On a trip I had 12 year old Dave Lowery catch and released a 18 pound redfish. 50 pound Tarpon have been biting in the channels on the calm warm days.

The deep water reef fishing has been disappointing, therefore we been fishing the shallow water patches. We been catching nice mangrove and muttons snappers, cero mackerel, red, gags and black groupers. the most notable catch over the last couple of weeks was a 30 plus pounder King mackerel that we caught and released in 30 feet of water. We also had a sail which we missed come up and blow the ballyhoo out of the water.

In the deeper water, the sailfish bite has been fair most of the action has been off of Davis and Conch reef. We been catching some Dorado while Sailfishing. There are not many King mackerel around, but the ones we been catching have been big ones.
