Upper Florida Keys & Islamorada

Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

Over the past weeks due to the weather; we been having. Most of my fishing has been either in the bay or on the shallow reefs in the ocean. In the bay, the trout have cooperative; but the sizes have been on the small size.the North winds have hurt the tarpon fishing. After a couple days of south winds I did try for them the first night we had a couple of tarpon up in the mullet but no hookups, the second night we did manage to land two one over a hundred and the other around 60 pounds. Another cold front shut them off again. We been going into the everglades park catching lemon and bull sharks instead. The one bright note is the this cold fronts have turn the groupers and snappers on. We been catching keeper fish almost ever time we go. On one trip last week, we had 26" black a 27" gag and a 26" red. On the deeper reef the flag yellow tails have started to eat and under them the big black groupers. We caught one about 20# and a friend of mine had one 41#.

The have been some dolphin caught, but not enough to warrant running off to catch a couple of fish. Amber jacks are on the humps, this should end when the commercial season opens may.
