Islamorada - Saltwater Fishing Report

This last week, the shallow water patches have been barren of the great bottom fishing we been experiencing. The water is warming and the fish are moving to deeper water. I fished the reef edge and we did catch some flag yellow tail snappers not the numbers that should develop as their spring spawn comes on stronger in a couple of weeks. Mixed in were cero, spanish and king mackerel.
When the wind is out of the South there have been dolphin from the reef out to the first shipping lane. We found them on any thing floating. Some nice Blackfin tuna are on the humps. A friend of mine caught 3 WAHOO drifting a jig deep below a door he found in 600 feet of water.
The tarpon finally show some consist action at the bridges. Live bait is needed. Trout, mackerel and snapper are still good. The other day we went into the park on a shark trip; we loose 5 spinner sharks and landed 2 lemons to 60 pounds. In between the sharks the rods were bent with trout, mackerel, jacks etc.
Take a kid fishing, it makes you feel good.
