If Your Going it Will be Blowing!

Capt. James Howard
February 7, 2010
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

I hope all this wind so far this month means no wind in March! Not a chance…. February and March are usually nothing but wind and it has held true so far this month.

There are still plenty of Trout to be caught but the average size has really dropped. And lately it has been tough because of all the wind. The Trout season is closed this month in North Florida so remember if you do catch some nice ones you should release them right away.

Most avid fisherman that fish for the freezer usually try to avoid them all together this month and target something they can keep….

There is still plenty of nice Drum in the creeks the size is from 14 inches to about 20 inches mostly and when you find them there is always more than one fish. As far as bending a pole the Rat Reds are still everywhere in the creeks and very eager to eat.

The larger Reds are also around but a little harder to catch. But if you figure them out as far as there feeding pattern they will also bite. It's not true about the big Red fish in the creeks not ever eating in the creeks during the winter. They might not be responsive every time you fish them but they do eat in the cold water. I have never caught a under nourished Red fish in the winter. In fact when I do catch the 4 to 8lb ones this time of year they are as healthy and stout as most any time.

Jacksonville Fishing Forecast:

If you don't mind the wind then you can catch plenty of fish. Lot's of small Reds and Trout and loads of Drum in the creeks. The huge Drum should be showing up in March. So get the heavy tackle READY!!!! Capt. James Howard Jacksonville Florida
