Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

The tide was right and the water was clean for a little 3am to day break gigging trip this past Wednesday morning July the 16th. No charter that morning so I was going Flounder gigging no matter what…

I go alone a lot of times even though I prefer to take some body with me. My buddies can't always make it during the week because they all have regular jobs. But my friend Phil Baker isn't afraid to miss a little sleep to stick a few flatties!

We started off a little slow going down about 400 yards of good bank only seeing a few fish that we didn't want to gig. I try to be picky when I'm gigging and only stick the nicer fish. Even if it means you only get 6 or 8 fish that is still a nice mess of 3lb Flounder.

We made a move and got started down another bank and it was on. For a solid hour up to daylight we saw at least 15 flounder on this bank and picked out 8 nice Flounder for the box. What a night and we finished up the morning at day break trying to catch a quick Red fish. Well that worked out nice to.

We caught One Red fish and another Flounder hook and line. What a great way to spend the morning. Phil had to go in to work but I went home and went to bed!!!

Flounder gigging is very addictive. Once you have stuck a few you are hooked. The main thing is the right tide and most important clean water and light winds.
