Great Weather and Great Fishing...

Capt. James Howard

Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather has been beautiful for the past week. Despite the 15 inches of rain we got the fish have settled right back in. All the fresh water did move them around some but they are still chewing.

On a trip late last week it was business as usual. Starting out with a low tide it was right to the creeks to work on the Red fish. The first bite came quick and it was a solid Red. Then we had to work several schools of Reds to find some more that were feeding.

One of the best things to do if a school of Reds is giving you a hard time just get away from them and soak a few chunks of crabs. It doesn't always work but the chances are a lot better for a hook up.

Sometimes they just can't turn a fresh piece of CRAB down…

After the tide got in it was off to float fish for Trout. I have plenty of Trout spots and every one of them has there right and wrong tide. It's like clock work and if you're a little early or a little late you can forget it!!!

The tide was right for this spot and as soon as we dropped them in the corks were going down. We caught about a dozen nice fish in about an hour. We also did something else at this spot that happens a lot this time of year and that was hook a Tarpon. Tarpon seem to love Trout. We had a Trout on and all the sudden the pole took a dip to the water and the line was screaming off the reel and two jumps later the big fish was gone. What a rush that is. The Tarpon was in the 60 pound range.

Thanks you guys for a great time.
