March 20th 2010 Jacksonville Florida

Capt. James Howard

Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

What a difference 6 degrees makes in the water temperature this time of year. With the water temperature getting close to 60 degrees for the first time in several months the fish responded last week. The Reds were really on the move and they were feeding…

The Drum and trout were also not a bad bet! Starting off in a small creek working live shrimp on an oyster mound it was about 2 hours of non stop Red fish. Even though several of the fish were small we caught 7 that were in the slot. The fish were from 22 inches to 25 inches. There isn't much that can go wrong after a start like that.

The next stop was to do some float fishing for Trout. It's been a while since I've Trout fished that way and it was good to see the cork go down. Even though I catch a ton of Trout during the winter I usually throw plastics but as the water warms and the larger Trout show up it is hard to pass on the float fishing.

We caught 11 Trout total with only 3 decent fish but the Drum were in this spot mixed with the Trout and they were all nice size. What a blast catching 5 lb Drum right along with the Trout…

I think we ended up with about 20 fish total and a nice box of fish to bring home.
