Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Some times everything works out just like you want it to on a charter. That is exactly what happened this past Monday June the 2nd….

With Kerry Varkonda his wife and daughter onboard they were looking for two things. The first was to catch a big Trout and then possibly a nice Redfish.

The way things have been I was pretty sure it could happen but you know how fishing can be from one day to the next.

I started off float fishing live shrimp for Trout. It was only a few minutes before we caught the first Trout. For the next 3 hours we caught close to two dozen and there were a few studs in the mix. I don't think we had a Trout less than 18 inches and it was all smiles on the boat.

Not wanting to leave the Trout bite I mentioned that there was not much time left and if they wanted to try to get a nice Red we should leave. After a few minutes of thinking it over they decided to leave the Trout and give the Reds a try.

All I can say is that it was there day! The first school of Reds I pulled up on were chewing. It was a blast catching 3 as soon as we got there but they were not the big ones that we saw pushing water. The ones we caught were in the 3lb range but there were some 7lb fish mixed with them.

We made one last cast to a larger fish with the biggest mud minnow I had. It was a perfect cast about 2 feet in front of the fish and he turned in it and well the rest is history now. A nice 7lb Redfish to cap off the morning. I love it when a plan comes together.

Thanks for a great time. Until next time tight lines
