Fishing Jacksonville & Mayport

Capt. Bryan Russell
October 22, 2005
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Offshore

Fall is in the air! cooling air and water temps are the ticket, and the inshore snapper and grouper are in total aggreement! A trip to some numbers in 50 - 60 ft. of water on thursday found the snapper and grouper chewin' hard.

Our first 5 drops with cut cigar minnows put 6 snapper in the boat, only one was long enough to go in the box. But it was a sign of great things to come. We worked a nice piece of bottom to pull two keeper snapper each and 3 gags in the 12-16 lb. range. All in the first hour! The water was dirty but the fish did'nt care one bit.

We moved offshore to 75-80ft. found cleaner water and proceeded to mop up on Snapper, Grouper, sea bass, and 7 huge triggerfish. we also broke off 2 very large fish on a wreck in 70 ft. all in all a great day on the water, 1-2 ft. seas and a box full of tasty fish! Nothin' like fresh snapper fillets for dinner.

Now's the time to book a trip to put some meat in the freezer for the winter. Give me a call for open dates. This is definately the time of the year to be in the "STRIKEZONE".

Tight lines and screamin' drags, Capt. Bryan
