Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore/nearshore report Jacksonville area waters
The October northeasters and soaking rains have finally slacked off for a few days. The St. Johns River system, ICW, and creeks are all above normal water levels due to the record rains. We also had a couple of weeks of red tide to deal with, however, that seems to have dissipated. The amazing thing is that the fishing remained pretty good throughout these inclement conditions!
There are some bull reds available along the channel edges and jetty tips, though the bite is not red hot. Slot reds are mixed in with them, and are along the ICW, and in the creeks. Some croakers and yellowmouth trout are in the same areas as the big reds.
Speckled trout are hitting topwater plugs on the higher tides along grass lines and oyster bars. Flounder are also biting well. Jacks, bluefish, and ladyfish can hit your offerings at any time. Mangrove snappers are plentiful with a few of legal size. One of my customers even caught a snook the other day.
We haven't had any cool weather yet, and the water temperatures are still high, so a tarpon is always a possibility. I caught three tarpon near the south jetty before the most recent bad weather hit.
This is a great time of the year when you can have a shot at a tarpon and a bull red on the same day!
Tight lines,
CAPT Bob
