Offshore: Summer Smokers are back!

Capt. Colin Hickey

Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fished a KDW tourny the past Saturday. All the action our team had was a 7lb. dorphin (small dolphin) a nice sail and too many bonita to count. The winning fish was a 57lb. wahoo that struck a live goggle-eye in 150-200ft. The dolphin action was pretty slow throughout the tournament and has continued to be slow throughout the week.

You might hear otherwise but the hoo are out there. Yesterday had a nice 'hoo on a trolled ballyhoo skirted with an iLand lure which was being reeled in to clear the lines for a fish being fought, the hoo hit it in about 160 ft south of the inlet and had it on for a while before the angler lost it probably because 3 anglers were all fighting fish.

Most of the action has been dominated by nice fat and annoying bonita. They have been everywhere from 80 ft to 350 ft. The only way youll be able to avoid them is to find some weedline or debris out in deeper depths.

Live bait has been thick from runners to sardines. The green roofs and north of the inlet has been holding alot. If you can get some, the afternoon kingfish bite has been solid. The commercial kingfish fleet has been heading out the inlet every afternoon, usually a good sign for steady action. Live bait is definitely catching more then dragged baits right now, so if you are able to find some live bait it is your best bet for getting some hoos or smokers.
