Jupiter - Saltwater Fishing Report

First Marlin! Sailfish stick around.
The Sail King caught it's first marlin on July 25th. Estimated weight was 150-200lbs. Still not sure if is a white or blue marlin. Angler Kevin Lecoq did a great job keeping the pressure on using 30lbs. test Ande "green envy" line and a 50lbs. mono leader and a 3/0 mustad 9174 hook. The battle lasted almost two hours and we ended up 5 miles from where the fish was hooked.
While live baiting off Juno in 100-200 feet, we only had a few run-offs and did manage to land a 35lbs. wahoo, so I decided to head north towards Jupiter inlet. Looking around I noticed a strong rip east of us. We headed out to 200ft, got in the middle of the rip and threw out a live greenie, before I could bait up and deploy the other rods the baited rod bounces and goes limp, on the surface, 50 feet to starboard is a dark fiquire, a bill and a eye the size of a golf ball, no sail. The rod goes off and so does the fish and he's hooked headed for the horizon, jumping as high as I've ever seen. As far as being a white or blue I'm not sure. I'm going to try to post a photo of it on CyberAngler's home page, anyone know please let me know.
Anyway, I haven't posted in a few week because this time of the year fishing remains pretty much the same. Live bait around the inlets, sabikis, cast nets, calm seas, T-storms, not many snowbirds, and the chance to catch almost any fish the swims the waters off Palm Beach.
Dolphin fishing has been terrible this summer and sailfishing has been great. Bonito are thinning out but are still around. You may have to find them instead of them finding you. We've been high-speed trolling early are the bonito for wahoo. We have caught 4 or 5 in the last week but we covered 50 miles of water each day, from Hobe Sound to Lost Tree so my opinion the ratio isn't great but it's good eating. Nice!
Kingfish around around deeper due to the full moon. Mutton are biting on and off during the day. I haven't seen too many yellowtail around this year either.
Snook season opens Sept 1st and the finger mullet are starting to show up inside. So inshore may turn on pretty good, early and late being the best times. We've had snook from jetty to jetty in Jupiter and they would not bite. Big cuda were there for fun and/or aggravation whichever way one perceives them. The big ones are fun when they jump, but the smaller bait stealers and mono cutters can be a nusaince.
Get out while the weather is stable, one tropical blow can keep us off the ocean for weeks if we are unfortunate enough to get such activity. T-storms are likely as well. Good luck!
Call for this sailfish bonanza before it's too late.
